What a waste that would be.  Are you wasting God’s gift to you?  God in love has called us to holiness.  God in love has provided everything we need for holiness.  Which means that you and I can walk in obedience to God’s Word and live a life of holiness.  Holiness isn’t just expected by God; it’s a promise from God for you.  “Be holy as I am holy.”  Don’t be scared.  Be thankful.  He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.

For the last month and a half, we’ve been breaking down Paul’s teaching in Colossians 3, looking at this chapter specifically in a family context.  Paul makes it clear that if we have been truly saved our lives are hidden with Christ in God, but the fruit of that life is not hidden.  It’s visible.  It’s most visible in our relationships with other people.   

Harmony.  It’s the instruments playing the intended notes together, something that results in beautiful music.  It’s two people who have stopped fighting with God and have begun working together to both keep and make peace.  This is the Good Life!

Don’t live reactively; live proactively.  Your identity is in Christ.  Your destiny is to be with Christ.  Your priority is to live for Christ. Is there something for which you’ve dropped the cross so you could pick up something else? As a spouse, parent, grandparent, or single adult where do you feel the pressure to be conformed to the world? Deny yourself, pick up your cross, and follow Christ. 

Yet, if your joy is in the God of your salvation, "Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls," you can rejoice in the LORD.
