We witness to both the sobering reality that there is a day of judgment coming, but also witness to the incredible hope of salvation through Jesus Christ. 

Heaven is celebrating the outcome of the game before the game is over and so should we.

Don’t give up.  Don’t lose your reward!  If you don’t, you also will be part of that victorious procession! 

True repentance is focused on the condition of a person’s heart in light of the standard and expectation of a holy God.  Repentance is to completely change one’s position from self-centered to submission to God.  Christ rebukes and we don’t fight; we change.  Change your mind. Change your pattern. Change your behavior. Change your schedule. Change your attitude. Get back to those things you were doing before, when your love for Jesus was more vibrant and alive.

But Jesus isn’t.  And, if he has his way with us, thoughts of his return won’t disappoint his children.  He, too, is away from his family.  He, too, has promised to return.  My children don’t understand all the reasons why I have to leave; we don’t understand all the details of his.  But our job in the meantime?  Trust.  Soon the final chapter will be crafted and He’ll appear at the door.  But until then Jesus says: “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me. 

Today, we’re not commemorating a past event; we are celebrating a present reality.  Jesus Christ is risen and He is with us!  Jesus Christ is still in the story.  And He wants to write you a new story, too. 

Sin is a problem that has to be dealt with.  Salvation must be sought and received.  But it will always begin with recognition: Jesus truly is the Son of God.  And what He did, He did for me.
